Anchor Boys is the youngest section of the Boys Brigade. We are a uniformed, church based organization catering for boys aged between 5 and 8 years old. We meet every Wednesday from 5.45pm to 7.05pm at Bromyard Road Methodist Church Hall.

What we do on a Wednesday evening

Above all, whatever we do the emphasis is on FUN!

During the first part of the evening we play games. These can be team games e.g. obstacle courses, football, treasure hunts etc. We also play group games e.g. cat & mouse, stuck in the mud, beans etc. These are examples of our ‘rowdy games’. However we also play ‘quiet games’ e.g. guess the length of a minute, memory games & hunt the anchor.

During the second part of the evening we provide a wide range of craft activities. We make models from card, fabric etc. We make gifts, cards & decorations for various occasions, particularly Christmas. Sometimes crafts are related to bible stories. We also cook at least once a term. We bake simple biscuits & cakes which the boys can take home at the end of the evening.

We have recently embarked upon badge work with the boys which gives more purpose and value to our games and craft activities. Our badge work is divided into five categories:-

Body – Fit for fun

  • Games and physical activities

Mind – Think and do

  • Quizzes, thinking games, treasure hunts

Spirit – God and me

  • Devotions, prayers, bible stories

Community – Me and my world

  • Conservation, helping others

Creativity – Make and do

  • Crafts, cooking

Our evening is brought to a close when we join the Junior Section of Boys Brigade. Their opening devotions are our closing devotions led by the Sergeant of the Company. This involves a short story promoting Christian values and a prayer.

On the first Sunday of every month we meet at Church at 10.15am for our Parade Service. The service usually finishes about 11.45am when the boys can be collected. If however you wish to join us for the service you are very welcome.

We charge a small weekly fee of less than 50p to cover our costs. We get extra income from collecting aluminium cans and foil. Boys can bring a small amount of money to spend at our tuck shop. (No more than 25p)
