Lent Activities 2009
This year Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (25th February) and continues through to Holy Saturday (11th April). As our churches prepare for Easter during this period, it was felt that adults and teens should take this opportunity to meet together in small faith sharing groups once each week in different homes for fellowship around a common theme. As a result of these discussions people in our churches will be given the opportunity to open up their homes and host a group through Lent. Once the venues have been established everyone will be invited to put their names down to attend the group of their choice for a five week period.
These groups will then follow a common source of material, i.e. ‘The York Course’, which has been especially prepared by the mainline traditions for churches to use during the period of lent 2009. This year the theme is Faith, Hope and Love.
A snippet from the website:
‘These three... Faith, Hope and Love is based on the three great qualities celebrated in 1 Corinthians 13. This famous passage begins and ends in majestic prose. But the middle paragraph is practical and demanding. St Paul's thirteen verses take us to the heart of what it means to be a Christian.’
5 sessions:
1. Believing and Trusting
2. The Peace of God
3. Faith into Love
4. The Greatest of these
5. All shall be well
We are praying that these groups will give opportunity for the word of God to come alive, and that you will be able to relate it to your day-to-day experience. You will learn more about Scripture, involve yourself in engaging discussions, meet interesting people, and have the opportunity to choose actions that will build up the Body of Christ.
I want to extend a special invitation to our young people to participate in a small group during Lent. Many young people have found these faith-sharing groups to be a rewarding and fulfilling experience. A person from our youth ministry team is available at Youth Group or at church on Sunday to talk with you today. Don’t miss this opportunity.
Please sign up for a small group today.
If you have questions, please talk to one of the church stewards or myself. We will be happy to speak with you.
